Exodus 20:4-6

THE SECOND COMMANDMENT Exodus 20:4 -6 20:4 'You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 20:5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 20:6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. Pocket Gods and Graven Images - I know many of you do not make graven images from stones and wood and worship them physically, but going inside their hearts, you find a lot of sophisticated images parched on their hearts that are worshipped. Let us just look at a few of the things that man worships with realising that they have set this item or product up to be an idol, often worshipped in their many different ways.

  1. The top of the list, hast to be money Now, many may disagree, as we all need money to buy food and clothing, but you lose just $1 out of your pocket searching everywhere for the $1 that you had lost. Losing that money was like losing an arm, you couldn't sleep all nigh because of losing that money. Money has filled that persons heart and become a thing of worship.

2. Many, Not all but many Millionaires and Billionaires put money as the head of their lives, they live for money, money has become their god.

3. Personal possessions.  Televisions, Computers, Furniture, Paintings, Coin & Stamp Collections. When we put those items before God in our lives, they have become things of worship in our lives. We now prefer to spend money on ourselves than to give a token of thanks and praise to our Lord God during the Sunday service..

In this commandment the worship of false gods is forbidden. Matthew 22:20-21, Jesus raised a question " who is this image subscription " they answered, "it is Caesar". This question is raised to us today. - Daniel 3:7, Nebuchadnezzar made a golden image set up for worship. The main intend for images or idols is for worship. 1. Charms 2. Animals 3. Song images with politicians 4. Money 5. Places created by the so called prophets and apostles 6. Different people made their big gods in temples and made other small gods that are portable and easy to carry i) Egyptians ii) Babylonians iii) Greeks - made very beautiful gods as our standard of beauty. iv) Romans - If you give power to anything apart from God, you make an idol of it. - Some give power to sickness, or ailments like typhoid, cancer, ulcers and they keep it a talk of the day keeping them a daily weakness in their lives. Unless you remove the power from them, you will never heal of them. - God is a jealousy God, both in bad sense and good sense to his people - Visiting the iniquity of the father's upon the children unto third and forth generation in both good and bad. 1. Happy visitations 2. Bad visitations Isaiah 10:3, Jeremiah 5:9
